SFJAZZ

San Francisco is home to SFJAZZ, a non profit, world class music venue whose mission is to advance the art form of Jazz. Attracting musicians from around the world and delivering hundreds of concerts each year, the beloved non profit also delivers an ambitious music program to every public school student in San Francisco.

In an effort to raise funds to deliver this mission, SFJAZZ hosts an annual gala honoring a luminary performer each January. Since 2017, Elixir has been charged with creating event collateral that is inspired by the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award. While the big picture goal is to help raise money, the underlying intent is to fully encapsulate the tone for the event—from the moment the invitation arrives in the mailbox to the community galvanizing celebration.

SFJAZZ Gala 2020 celebrates Mavis Staples with the SFJAZZ Lifetime Achievement Award. A custom 7″ single was included in the invitation. For the event, due to The Staple Singers historic connection to the civil rights movement, Elixir conceived of hand signs (inspired by church fans in the South and imprinted with quotes from Mavis), made available on every seat.

Cuban legend Chucho Valdez was honored in 2019.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band was honored in 2018. A commemorative embroidered handkerchief was included in the invitation.

Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain was honored in 2017 and a handsome dyed linen scarf was included in the invitation, tying into his Indian roots.
