California Academy of Sciences

Prior to opening it’s dramatic new facility in the Fall of 2008, the leaders of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco asked Elixir to create a suite of invitations to kick off their opening events. The theme was The Big Bang. The Pentagram-designed brand guidelines were gelled enough to provide fonts and a color palette but still open enough for us to play.

Invitations were printed with soy inks on 100 percent recyclable materials, including Nori seaweed, 100 percent recycled chipboard, reused pages from Scientific American magazines and aluminum foil.
