Berggruen Gallery

Legendary gallery owners John and Gretchen Berggruen retained Elixir for a rebranding effort that would mark their move from an inconspicuous second floor gallery space to a prominent corner adjacent to SFMOMA. Elixir’s design challenge was to gather content and execute blue-chip-calibre typography while staying out of the way of the Art. Inspired by mid century art publications, Elixir created an identity that was highly tactile, well produced, and complimented but didn’t compete with the artwork. Time was of the essence. The Berggruens wanted to catalog for the gallery’s opening show which required a herculean effort on all fronts.

Signage

We designed the signage for the Berggruen Gallery’s new space in downtown San Francisco, customizing the letterforms in order to make them stack effectively. Had there been an “I” in the name, stacking the letters would have been out of the question.
